Hello First Graders! I set up your amazing traps and added some Lucky Charms for good luck! Luck is going to LOVE these!
March has been full of FUN! This week we went to the Backyard with Mr. Johnson's freshman AP biology class! We went in two groups. The first group went early while it was cloudy and cool. We saw an armadillo and a turtle and lots of insects. The second group went after PE when it was sunny and warm. We didn't see many animals, but we did see lots of birds, insects, cool spiderwebs, spiders, flowers and plants. Our buddies gave us notebooks, erasers, a squishy, a seed bomb and stickers in a science bucket. They were awesome! We are studying Texas symbols and Texas Tall Tales. This week we wrote our own tall tales and drew ourselves as Tall Texans. You can see our artwork in the pictures below. Who is your favorite Texan?! This week we made teaching posters! It was so much fun! We each picked a topic, researched it, took notes, and practiced paraphrasing! Then we created a poster and taught the class about our topic. You can see our teaching posters below! Thursday we had fun celebrating Go Texan Day by wearing our western clothes and attending a special assembly where we learned the winners of the Cow Contest! It was fun! We have been reading heart of the hero books. These are biographies about people and animals that are brave, responsible, kind, resilient, persistent, honest and work hard to help others. We read about Balto, Helen Keller, Bobbi Gibbs, Martin Luther King, Jr, Ruby Bridges, and Doc Key. We then created posters of how we have the heart of a hero. Please leave a comment and let us know how YOU have the heart of a hero! Do you have a favorite hero? We'd love to know! We had an AMAZING week traveling to Brazil and Austria! Here are a few of our favorite memories from I Fair...
First Grade made birthday boxes for children at the Panda Path School to help them celebrate their special day! Inside the boxes we put: a cake mix, a party favor, icing, napkins and plates. We made dragons for Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is a celebration that is also called Lunar New Year because more and more people all over the world celebrate it. People chase away the old year and welcome in the new with fireworks, feasts, and dragon parades. Happy 2020! This week we learned that people often welcome a new year by making resolutions. A resolution is a promise you make to yourself to be better or help others. You can see our resolutions in the slide show below! What are some of your resolutions for 2020? First Grade wishes all of you a very Happy Holidays! Have fun and see you back at school in 2020! Here are a few pictures from our class party today.
